Hi, we’re Maia and Ariel; we’re in high school and living near Seattle, Washington. We’ve made this Rally to help raise money for small orphanages in out-of-the-way places around the world. Our first choice is an orphanage in our mother’s home town, Yinchuan, China. Yinchuan is a medium-sized city in north central China, near the Mongolian border.
The orphanage itself is the Yinchuan Muslim Orphanage. Family friends have visited it, and have verified that it is professionally run and the children are well cared for. They need basics: food, clothing, and school supplies. Please help us by giving whatever you can — even a few dollars can make a difference!
School has been very busy for us, but we're getting ready for the end of the school year and becoming more active on promoting our Rally. The $250 donated by our supporters so far has been sent to the orphanage, as you can see (sort of) from the image we posted earlier today (you can go to the orphanage web site to verify it). Thank you to all of our supporters for your donations! If you've got a few spare moments, why not tell a friend about the Little People Project?
Best,
Maia and Ariel

This cause is something we really believe in, so anything you can do to help would be much appreciated. Thanks for helping us spread the word about our cause! Happy holidays!

Wow! we are now just about 25% of the way to our goal!! This week, we'd like to tell you a little bit more about how donations will be used by this orphanage.
Of course, one use of your donations will be essentials (coal, rice, clothes), as we described a couple weeks ago. Your donations will also be used to provide the children with a taste of what many of us take for granted: toys and other luxuries. Just like children with parents might get allowances for doing chores, and like the "kids cash" we got when we were in elementary school, these orphans receive scrip for the orphanage's store when they do chores like clean their rooms or when they get good grades. They can use this scrip to "buy" fancier pencils (and other stationary items), clothes, candy, etc.
It takes a little thought to imagine what it's like to grow up without a family. While they are well cared for, these children don't have parents to buy them a bag of potato chips when they want something more than their regular meals. Your generous donations will help make sure that, even without parents, these orphans will have a little extra in their lives. So, make sure you guilt all your friends and relatives to donate something -- even as little as $5 will help!
Another week, and we are now over 15% of the way towards our goal! Let's see if we can get more "likes" on Facebook this week.
Running an orphanage is a big, expensive job. Every month, a broad range of supplies and foodstuffs need to be purchased. For example, this month the Yinchuan orphanage needs to buy: supplies for math classes, 100 tons of coal for heating (5 tons of coal just for cooking in the kitchen), 20 bags of rice, 10 bags of flour, 100 lbs. of eggs, 200 lbs. of apples, many other fruits and vegetables, dozens of boxes of treats, hundreds of liters of drinks, hundreds of clothes items, toiletries by the case, etc., etc. Our goal of $1000 doesn't come close to buying everything needed in a month, but it will certainly help. We're not sure we can make it there, but we hope that all of our supporters can get their friends to chip in a few dollars — every little bit helps!
Thank you so much for your support. It's so humbling that we have already received 12% of our goal. Over the next few weeks we will be providing you with information about Yinchuan and the orphange's story.
