Help this Rally grow by simply liking it:
West Sacramento is widely recognized as one of the nation’s best-run local governments—blending dreams, vision, pragmatism, and results.
Facing 2020’s challenges, we’ve needed to be all that—and more. West Sacramentans are hurting.
But that’s when West Sacramento rolls up its sleeves. We’ve stayed laser-focused on testing and safety, working with leading public health scientists.
We’ve kept innovating:
• Led the state in housing local homeless residents in motels. We opened more rooms than our city’s total unsheltered homeless count.
• One of first cities to ban evictions during the pandemic.
• Led the region as first city to reform its police department to deploy mental health crisis intervention professionals when armed officers aren’t the answer.
• First city in America to send college acceptance letters to every graduating high school senior, along with free tuition and scholarships.
Thanks to prudent financial management, West Sacramento faces fewer devastating service cuts than neighboring cities. We’re not missing a beat on our “normal” progress, creating stronger flood protection levees, new jobs, and new trails throughout town.
It isn’t and won’t be easy. But with all of us in this together, know this: West Sacramento will keep moving forward.
Since becoming Mayor in 1998, I've helped lead our community's transformation, creating thousands of jobs and attracting billions in regional, nation, and global investment. Even with projects like The Barn, Raley Field, our new downtown (and its community college, library, and community center/theater), the IKEA center and Southport Town Center, retrofitting all of the levees that protect us against flooding, the city recreation center and miles and miles of new trails and bike lanes, a sustained and unprecedented drop in crime, and revitalization our our waterfront, we've embraced our legacy and heritage as the foundation for inclusive prosperity.
West Sacramento was named America's Most Livable City in a competition with hundreds of other communities across the nation. We've been recognized as one of the nation's leading innovators in areas as diverse as food, civic technology (one of the world's "Smart Cities to Watch in 2018"), youth and education, and workforce development. Our pioneering West Sacramento Home Run, the first initiative in the nation connecting every young person to universal preschool, college savings accounts, paid internships, digital badges, tuition-free college, and scholarships, has been recognized by the Federal Reserve and the United Nations as a best practice and emerging model. We've been named one of the world's "21 Smart Cities to Watch".
Our blend of experience and innovation gets it done...but I need your help to keep the momentum going strong.
